Professional people who may be of help include GPs, Neurologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Home Care Nurses and Social Workers. This list is not exhaustive.
IIn North and Mid Bedfordshire this service is offered by Community Occupational Therapists who will advise about equipment and minor adaptations. They are employed by NHS Bedfordshire and also by local government authorities which are Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council in this area. Advice about more extensive adaptations to the home is supplied by Occupational Therapists in Adult Social Care teams in local govenment. All services will accept a direct referral but may need to liaise with other health professionals such as a family doctor.
NHS Bedfordshire Community Occupational Therapists accept referrals through a telephone referral service called One Call. The telephone number is 0845 6024064.
